An irresistible juicy natural sweet rosé, St Claire is a pretty cherry pink with tempting crushed strawberry and Turkish delight aromas that explode in succulent candied red berry flavours. The light alcohol makes this easy drinking and great lunch time wine.
The absolute approachable nature of St Claire holds broad appeal for the novice palate or even non-winedrinker. A fantastic summer sipper served ice cold, or with picnics, curried chicken salads, BBQ burgers and sticky ribs.
An attractive blend with liberal lashings of dark red fruit aromas spiced up with subtle toasty vanilla oak tones. The palate is perfectly balanced and soft with a juicy dark berry centre capturing the friendly yet feisty side of a young Shiraz supported by the volume and intensity of the Cabernet Sauvignon.
About the Winery
Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa with a recorded history dating back to 1692. Spier’s wines are among the most awarded in South Africa. Visitors to the Stellenbosch-based farm can enjoy these paired with wholesome delicious food – made with ingredients sourced either from the farm or trusted, nearby farmers. The Spier Hotel and meeting facilities offer inspiring winelands getaways in the tranquility of nature.
Sustainability is woven through every aspect of our business. On our organically-certified farm, free-roaming livestock and chickens are reared in pastures without the use of antibiotics or hormones, while fruit and vegetables are grown without artificial fertiliser or pesticides. Extensive tracts of alien vegetation have been removed, and more than a million indigenous plants replanted. 100% of black- and grey-water and more than 98% of solid waste is recycled. Our water conservation and boosting of biodiversity saw Spier recognised as one of more than 40 WWF Conservation Champions.
Spier has also been recognised by various other external organisations – including Fair Trade in Tourism (FTTSA), and is a member of the Wine Industry Ethical Trade Associations (WIETA), promoting and adhering to an ethical code of conduct to transform the agricultural sector. The Spier winery is FSSC 22000 and organically-certified, and in 2019 became the first winery in the world to receive Control Union Vegan Standard certification by the accredited certifying body Control Union.
A true symphony of a wine, with Bordeaux varietals led by Cabernet Sauvignon achieving a perfect, rousing harmony. If you ever need a standout performance from a red come dinnertime, then this is your blend.
Blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant is supported by cedar, dark chocolate and fennel hints. The vibrant palate has great balance and dense tannins. The taste will be enhanced by ageing.
Slow-cooked oxtail, a beef casserole, or wild mushroom risotto.
Spier’s Sourcing Philosophy: Nourishing and delicious food. Wine richly expressive of its terroir. This is their recipe: being good to the earth, to animals and to people. Spier sources as many ingredients as possible from their farm and from friends of Spier: the local, small-scale suppliers who share their ethical ethos. The fruit, veg and herbs in their gardens grow without artificial fertiliser or pesticides. Their happy cows, pigs and chickens are reared on our certified organic pastures without growth hormones or routine antibiotics. The quality of their wines begins in the vineyard. Each site is carefully chosen to ensure a perfect match between terroir and varietal and lovingly stewarded to ensure an optimal harvest, year after year.
